Gion Festival July “Behind the scenes of Yoiyama”

Yoshie Doi

In July, there are events related to the Gion Festival every day. From July 12th and 13th, the preparation of the floats for the previous festival will begin, and long-established shops will also begin preparations for the lanterns and folding screen festivals to welcome the Gion Festival. On the 14th, floor protective sheets were affixed to buildings along the Karasuma street stalls. The unloading of the stalls from 4:30 pm was quick, and when it became a pedestrian mall at 6:00 pm, it was crowded with people, people, and people, and the meaning of the floor covering was on the site, and it was a festival. I understand that it is a countermeasure on the side that is doing it.

Volunteers were also on duty to take measures against garbage in the pedestrian paradise.

In addition, at the Kyoto Chuo Shinkin Bank, which has its main branch in Hokomachi on Shijo-dori, on the 13th, 14th, and 24th, staff are serving customers in yukata. This event has been going on since 1975, when we moved to KankoHokomachi. I didn’t get permission to take a picture, so I couldn’t take a picture, but I’m impressed by the refreshing efforts.
