The Gion Matsuri theYamahoko parade and the Mikoshi moving were held for the first time in three years, and the number of people in Yoiyama was 300,000. Due to the history of Gion Matsuri, there are several cancellations and postponements just by checking the literature. First of all, the biggest cancellation was for 33 years from the Onin War (1467-1477) to 1500.

At the time of the Hokke-ikki in 1533, the Yamahoko parade was carried out even if the Shinto ritual was canceled. The parade was postponed five days after the Honnoji Incident on June 2, 1582 (old calendar), and the Yamahoko parade was carried out in November

　At that time, Honnoji was located at the corner of the Takoyakushi, where went up two streets north of Shijo Nishinotoin. Since it is in the middle of Naginataboko, it must have been a serious incident. .. The current Honnoji Temple in Oike, Teramachi, is the place where Hideyoshi later relocated.

The Gion Festival was also canceled during World War II (1943-1946), and even during the underground construction of Hankyu Railway in the Showa era (1962), only the Yamahoko parade was canceled. Even in the 2020 and 2021 under Korona, the Yamahoko parade and the Mikoshi moving have been canceled.

This year, it was the first time in three years to go to the Yamaboko parade and the Mikoshi moving, but the Mikoshi canceled the original course around the Ujiko area and went straight on Shijo-dori from Yasaka Shrine to return to the Otabisho (Shijo-dori Shinkyogoku North).
