June 14 is the birthday of Dr. Yasunari Kawabata. This year is the 120th birthday. I have never seen him directly with Professor Yasunari Kawabata, but I learned about various things from Dr. Kaori Kawabata and learned about Dr. Yasunari Kawabata’s feelings for Kyoto.
We just opened “Kyoto that Kawabata loved ” at the opening course of “Kyoto love story” curriculum in 2008 at the Kyo-Suzume School. It was also a course for the “Love letter to Kyoto” open call for participants project. We had you judge as the examination chairperson of the first, second “love sentence to Kyoto”.
Kaori Kawabata said, “I think that the action of Kyo-Suzume committee for Kyoto to continue to look like Kyoto continuously, which is a very sensitive response to the crisis of Japan and the crisis of development. It is a world heritage that Japan boasts for the world, but it is completely different from the cultural heritage like the Parthenon of Athens. The Parthenon shrine has nothing to do with the present life . It remains as a cultural heritage, but the past and the present are broken off. There is almost no appearance of life left. However, living are still in Kyoto. Yasunari Kawabata’s novel “Koto : Old capital” is translated into “Kyoto” and over 50 languages in foreign countries, and is read like a guidebook of a Kyoto city , but the city is still alive with history as it is It seems to invite the feeling of longing for Kyoto.
He said that “Love letter to Kyoto” seems to have made great achievements in raising interest in the ancient city that continues to live, and he came to Kyoto from Kamakura many times. .
We will recieve about the attractiveness of Kyoto from people all over the country and a foreign country, and we will improve our cohesion and communication ability and connect it to the further attraction and culture of Kyoto.
