Kameya Norikatsu store Taken on August 5, 2023 State of the shop

In early August, in the heat of the summer, I went to Kameya Norikatsu in Sanjo, Sakaimachi to buy Japanese sweets. https://www.kameyanorikatsu.com/ This shop was founded in 1916. The shop still retains the atmosphere of that time. I visited here to buy Hamazuto that are sold only from mid-May to mid-September. In the evening, one woman who went shopping at the store earlier left behind her purchased items. When the shop staff called her, I immediately noticed that people were distracted by the heat. Inadvertently, I also forgot the change, so I was approached by the store staff.

Hoko at the Gion Festival, and I often give it as a gift. This is a year-round sale, but the Hamazuto is only available for a limited time, so in the summer, if we have them chilled, the agar and sugar sweets in a clam container will remind you of the sea. Ice at Japanese confectionery stores has been very popular recently, and I often see people queuing up for it, but I can’t finish the cold ice, so I’m comfortable with the perfect amount of chilled Japanese sweets in the middle of summer.

In addition, Kamesuehiro’s famous for a reminder of past store has an atmosphere of the Edo period. In Kyoto, there are still several shops that have inherited the traditions of the Edo period. The real pleasure of Kyoto is that you can go back in time not only to the products, but also to the stores as well.
