A little break, an afternoon beer
Yoshie Doi
During the three-day holiday in July, I organized my documents at home for the first time in a while. I was tired in the evening, so I took a break a little early and had some beer and sake. I usually don’t have time to take my time cleaning and organizing my documents at home during the day, so this was a great day.
I carefully preserved documents, including 40-year-old notes and meeting materials, but I got rid of them and started scanning only what I needed. I also bought a lot of books, and there are many that I haven’t read yet. I also needed to organize the books I brought home from the office, so I decided to organize them by genre.
I buy books that I personally want to read, from history to international affairs, art, culture, business, etc. There are also many books that were burned by GHQ. I buy best-selling books and books that were familiar to Japanese people before the war.
I read every day at home while drinking Japanese tea, but when I was younger, I would read about three books at the same time.
After tidying up and cleaning, I enjoyed afternoon beer, not afternoon tea. I don’t usually drink much beer. I enjoy a little bit of sake. I happened to have some Takachiho beef miso, yuzu miso, Daitokuji natto, and simmered sardines with plums in the fridge, and enjoyed my beer with them. It was 37 degrees outside, so I had a cold Yona Yona Ale for the first time in a while. My favorite beer is “Wednesday Cat,” but it’s not sold there. It’s a hassle to order it online, so I buy Yona Yona Ale from a nearby store.
Sometimes, a cold beer is just the thing to enjoy during the hot summer. Cheers!
