Role of Kyo-Suzume
Sparrows can fly near places where people live. Therefore, we often see it. Chun Chun also calls friends. Our group name, “Kyo-Suzume, is also named after the idea of seeing culture and history from a mundane perspective of daily life, rather than seeing culture from a high perspective like a hawk or an eagle. It is derived from a guidebook (Information magazine / Guide book) called “Kyosuzume” published in the Edo period.
The word Kyo-Suzume also has the meaning of “We know everything about Kyoto well,” so we named it. When it was first established in 2001, it was named “Yuyusha Kyo-Suzume” and started with the name of playing with eternal culture and history, and in 2017 it moved to the “Kyo-Suzume Culture and Tourism.
Both use the name “Kyo-Suzume” and holding fast to our original ambitions. Sparrows eat rice and wheat and mean the prosperity and development of the country. The paintings of sparrows and bamboo are classic and classic. Last year in 2020, a hanging scroll “Bamboo sparrow drawing” handwritten by Tokugawa Iemitsu was discovered in Nagano City. It will be unveiled at the Fuchu Art Museum this year.
I have collected sparrow and bamboo paintings for a while, but sparrows are drawn near the ground.
When sparrows ate rice in the northern part of Beijing, a breadbasket in China, They struck a bell or a pot to wipe out the sparrows so that sparrows wouldn’t sleep. Years later, the sparrows disappeared, but instead, a large number of pests broke out and caused more damage. There was a history of sparrows that could no longer harvest rice and wheat.
Although the role of sparrows is small, it was found that the circulation of nature plays a role that works well. Kyo-Suzume is also a small organization that is still weak in its 21st year, but I hope to continue to disseminate information that Kyoto culture will lead the culture of the earth.
