Greetings from the head of the Love Letter Square in Kyoto (Chairman of the Judging Committee) Shoichi Inoue

I was born in Hanazono, in the western suburbs of Kyoto, and raised in Saga. Now I live in the southern suburbs of Uji. I have spent my entire life in and around Kyoto.

Sixty-eight years already.

“I think I know something about the city of Kyoto.” And I don’t like this city too much. There are many things I don’t like. I don’t feel like writing a love letter.

“Is it okay for someone like me to become the head of the love letter square (chair of the judging committee)?” I hesitated before accepting the offer. I wondered if I could do it.

“I have just made up my mind to accept.” I’m sure there will be a lot of mails and letters at the love letter square. Some of them may prompt me to reflect. Oh yeah. There was such a place in Kyoto. This love letter hit a blind spot… Yes, I am looking forward to encountering a letter asking me to convert.

Plaza of Love Letter to Kyoto

So far, we have held four open calls for “Love letters to Kyoto”. From the 4th time, in addition to “Love Letters to Kyoto”, “Love Letters from Kyoto” will be opened as a trump card to convey the charm of Kyoto. A long-established family head living in Kyoto and a key person in Kyoto will write a love letter and send it from the Kyo-suzume website. Partners (sponsoring companies), sponsors, etc., and the Kyo-suzume Culture and Tourism Research Institute will be asking for writing, and from this 5th edition, we will solicit general public submissions from Kyoto residents and those who have lived in Kyoto. We will appeal the history of their business, culture, corporate philosophy, etc., and convey the charm of Kyoto. We hope that they will introduce Kyoto of the attractions that they want to convey from Kyoto residents and those who have lived in Kyoto . We will open a plaza in order to increase the power of transmission from Kyoto and the centripetal force to Kyoto, and to show love letters from Kyoto and all over the country to many people.

About Love letter to Kyoto

A love letter to Kyoto is a love letter that keeps the soul of Kyoto even 100 years after Kyoto in order to continue to be Kyoto. A love letter that incorporates the wisdom of Kyoto into our daily lives and resonates with nature to protect each other. A love letter that wants to keep an eye on the origin of Kyoto, where people can live in harmony with nature even when the times change. A love letter that wishes Kyoto to shine as an attractive city as an eternal city of heart. In addition many people visit to enjoy the atmosphere of Kyoto that evokes the genes, when we welcomed visitors from overseas to Kyoto, we received a lot of awareness about the charm of Kyoto from people from different cultures, which also triggered the open call for love letters. A love letter to connect the universal spirit of Kyoto to the next generation of the Japanese mind. Kyoto has inherited the hearts of its predecessors.
